Step By Step Installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux

1.   insert your Oracle Linux media in your CD/DVD drive and reboot your system (be sure to set your computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive).

2.Hit enter key to start the installation.

On the welcome screen the installation process will prompt you to check and test your installer. You can select OK to test your media, or select skip to continue installing.

On the Graphical Interface, click on the next button.

3.Select your language and click next.

4. Select your keyboard layout and click next.

5. You see the hard disk partitioning section. I’ll select the “remove all partitions on selected drive and create default layout” and “the preview and modify the partition layout” then click next.

6.As you see, the installer created a LVM (Logical Volume Manager) group and created 2 volumes for root and swap. Click next to continue.

7. We do not change the GRUB loader settings, click next.

8. In the network devices screen, set the hostname and static IP address (because we will use this system with Oracle RDBMS) and click next.

9. Select the your region and location on the next screen. You can use the map to select your location.

10. Enter the Root (the administrator account) password, click next.

In the software selection screen, select “customize now” and click next.

11. In software package groups, find “Base system” and mark “System Tools”, then click “optional packages”.

Select the oracle-validated package so our system will have the required users, groups and software packages to install Oracle RDBMS. Thanks Oracle! Click “close” and click next.

12. Click next to begin the installation.

Wait for the system to finish the installation.

13. After finishing the installation, remove the DVD (the installation media) and click reboot.

You see the welcome screen. After 3-4 steps, installation will be done. Click forward.

14. Accept the license agreement (why don’t you install it if you’ll not accept the license agreement?), click forward.

Disable firewall (you can enable it later if you wish), click next.

Disable SELinux (you can enable it later if you wish, but I do not recommend you to enable it while working with Oracle software), click next.

15. f you don’t care about 128 KB memory (on my test system I have only 2 GB), enable kdump. I’ll not use it for this installation. Click forward.

Check if date and time information is correct, click forward.

16. You can create a new user for daily usage, but we don’t need it because oracle-validated package already created the user oracle for us.

17. Click forward until you see the finish button. Click “finish”, your system will be rebooted.
